Brand Building
Mets

Have the Mets done all they could do to get to the postseason this year?

An article by Newsday's David Lennon, as well as a radio interview of Omar Minaya by WFAN's Mike Francesa, - make one wonder how badly the Mets want to get to the playoffs.  Not the players (though that's been debated at times over the past two years), but the front office.

TRANSACTIONS

It’s always hard to say goodbye.  Some of us are traded.  Others are waived.  Some are demoted while others outright released.  The newspaper calls these moves “Transactions.”  I call them possibly the worst time in a person’s life.  In the real world, there are layoffs.  Restructuring.  Baseball teams never downsize, at least not on the field.  Look at a 25-man roster on opening day.  Then look at it at the All-Star break.  On October 1, glance one last time.  The one consistency?

After hearing that John Maine’s shoulder issues are compounded by a bone spur — and that his season may be in doubt — I thought it made sense to check with an expert on the subject. Ironically, former Mets trainer Bob Sikes had already posted an enlightening article titled “The Bad Signs Regarding John Maine’s Shoulder” on his own blog Getting Paid to Watch.

Waving Goodbye To Waivers
Latest News
Written by Jimmy Scott
Monday, 18 August 2008
I don't know if I have the power anymore, but I want my next contract to not allow me to be put on waivers.  I don't like it when a team that I wanted to play for and, in turn, wanted me to play for them, decides to relinquish their rights to me.  This blows monkeychunks for a couple of reasons:

1.  If a player is put on waivers, the player has no idea, officially, if he was put on waivers.  A team doesn't have to tell a player or his agent, or the press, so we find out through backrooms in bathrooms from people who overheard something that may or may not be true.
