Perhaps the 2007 ALDS represented just what Yankee fans needed to see.
Longtime clutch god Derek Jeter’s contribution to the postseason effort
was a sequence of double plays, while Alex Rodriguez’s home run was
simply unsupported by his supposedly more October-oriented teammates.
This is not to suggest that Derek Jeter has somehow lost that magic. It’s that the magic never existed.
(BRONX, N.Y.) Yankee Stadium knows from postseason baseball.
Even with the nightmarish traffic caused by the postseason crowds --
made even worse by the new Yankee Stadium construction -- there's
little chance that the seats will not be filled to capacity come first
pitch.
If anything, the much-criticized (by opposing fans and media) "Roll
Call" -- as performed by the Yankee Stadium crowd for each and every
game -- makes the first inning begin powerfully.
On a Sunday night that felt like a farewell hug before the game even began, Yankee fans saved their loudest cheers for manager Joe Torre.
Along the third base tier, a simple sign, “Do It For Joe”, adorned the blue wall alongside the patriotic bunting that signifies the importance of October baseball—as if the 56,358 cheering as if a team that had provided them with so many thrills might be playing for the very last time.
Earlier this year on May 31, 2007, an article was published titled “10
Reasons Why The New York Yankees Will Win the World Series.” At the
time, the Yankees were 22-29, 13.5 games out of the AL east, and 7
games out of Wild Card position. As the article circulated through the internet, I was called many different names and the material in the article was ridiculed.
Mets fans are probably pretty down in the bumps these days. But, tyey
do have a treat in store for them if they read Dana Brand's book, "Mets
Fan". Mike Silva, the host of NY Baseball Talk, attended the book launch last
Sunday, and said the event was "a Mets blogasphere version of a “blind
date”.
(FLUSHING) The stage was set for drama of the highest order. The
reeling New York Mets, who have been reading and hearing all about
their fans' anger qand frustration about their awful play in September,
were ready to turn their season around.
