The Mets have been shopping their prospects all over the majors in
search of the elusive ace, and the most recent stop on their tour
(after departing Minnesota and Oakland) is Baltimore. The Orioles have
been looking to trade their stud lefty Erik Bedard, and fortunately for
the Mets, there’s little to no chance the O’s will want to trade in the
division.
(NASHVILLE) In the music business, careers are made -- and broken –
in the fabled city of Nashville. For a few days in December, the same
can be said for Major League Baseball, which will hold its annual
Winter Meetings here, starting Monday, Dec. 3.
When the news broke at lunchtime Friday that the New York Mets traded Lastings Milledge, it was no surprise.
Expecting to hear Dan Haren, Erik Bedard or Johan Santana next, Mets
fans were disappointed and frustrated when it was revealed that
Milledge was traded for catcher Brian Schneider and outfielder Ryan
Church.
For the past three years, Gotham Baseball Magazine has tracked,
reported and discussed every single trade rumor involving former No. 1
pick Lastings Milledge. So to say that his trade to he Nationals on
Friday was an unlooked for event would be incorrect. The return of
Ryan Church and Brian Schneider was even less shocking, as SI.com's Jon
Heyman – who's doubling these days as a WFAN reporter – told us that it
was going to happen a week ago.
You can see it one of two ways: glass half-empty or glass half-full. That's the reaction to Thursday's news that 92-year old Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad is baseball's wealthiest owner.
The fight over Johan Santana is now under way. The Twins have made
specific requests of the two main competitors, namely the Yankees and
the Red Sox. Specifically, the Twins want Hughes, Melky Cabrera (pictured, left) and a
prospect or two from the Yanks, and Jacoby Ellsbury and either Clay
Buchholz or Jon Lester from the Sox.
