YANKEES - CHI:  Countdowns Abound at the Stadium

Many different countdowns are taking place at Yankees Stadium tonight.  Yankees fans are counting down the final games played in the House that Ruth Built, and are ready to see Derek Jeter break Lou Gehrig's record for hits at the stadium, while Chicago fans are counting down their magic number to clinching the AL Central.

There's also that unfortunate countdown to when the Yankees will be knocked out of contention for the postseason

The Yankees (80-70) are looking for their fourth straight victory tonight as they host the Chicago White Sox (83-66).

Yankees bats have come to life as they hold out for their last gasp.  Xavier Nady had a two-run homer and Bobby Abreu had three hits for the Yankees in their last win against the ChiSox, The Yankees will be looking to win four in a row for the first time since an eight-game streak in July.  Derek Jeter went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, remaining tied with Lou Gehrig for the most hits at Yankee Stadium (1,269).

The Yankees send Andy Pettitte (13-13, 4.52)  to the mound tonight, who had seen his share of struggles recently.  Pettitte is 0-4 with a 7.15 ERA in his last four outings, and the Yankees are 1-8 in his last nine starts. He pitched 4 2/3 innings last Wednesday against the Angels, allowing four runs on nine hits.

The White Sox try to bounce back from Monday's loss with Gavin Floyd (15-7, 3.77) taking the mound.  Floyd lost Thursday to Toronto, allowing four runs and seven hits in 7 1/3 innings. He had won his previous five decisions since his last loss on July 19. The right-hander doesn’t have a decision in one start and one relief appearance against the Yankees, posting a 10.00 ERA over those outings.
