When the Long Island Stars of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League folded after the 2006 season, the league needed someone to turn around a dismantled franchise. The ACBL, a summer wooden bat league for college baseball players looking to show off to scouts and fine tune their game, was looking for a determined group of knowledgeable baseball personnel to bring respect to both the league and their team.

It has been a summer of goodbye for Gotham area college baseball, as two long-time Division III head coaches, Jeff Albies of William Paterson, and Rick Dell of The College of New Jersey, have stepped down from their positions. Albies has announced his retirement, while Dell has taken a position with Major League Baseball.

A month has passed since the major league baseball draft, and with an August 15th signing date approaching, many of those selected have signed and begun their professional careers. An update on the highlights of the past month for the Gotham Class of 2007.

The College of New Jersey ’s head baseball coach, Rick Dell has announced his resignation from the College to accept a position as the Director of Baseball Operations in Asia for Major League Baseball and will be based in Bejing , China . Dell will assume his new role on September 1, but will continue working on international programs throughout the summer in China. |
