Six members of Rutgers co-Big East champion squad, and their top recruit, lead a class of Gotham area players that were drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft on Thursday and Friday. Seton Hall Prep right-hander Rick Porcello was the first local player taken, selected 27th overall after dropping from the top of the first round due to signability questions. Scarlet Knights shortstop Todd Frazier then went to the Reds in the supplemental round, and was joined by teammates outfielders Ryan Hill (Padres, 477) and David Williams (Yankees, 484), catcher Frank Meade (Reds, 739), second baseman Mike Bionde (Royals, 1081), and first basemanTom Edwards (1233, Rangers). Hill and Edwards are both underclassmen who have the option of returning to school next season. Don Bosco Prep first baseman (and Rutgers recruit) Jaren Matthews was selected by the Red Sox with the 534rd pick.
