Long Island Ducks: Week in Review
All information in this notebook is of July 17
The Long Island Ducks came home after the all-star break to take on the Road Warriors and with both teams starting fresh at 0-0 anything could happen. The Ducks seized the beginning of season two in 2007 and swept the series.
Opening game: (7/13/07)-Ducks 8, Road Warriors 2
Donovan Osborne (4-4) threw eight innings of five hit shut-out ball and seven different players had an RBI as the Ducks continue to dominate second half openers. They’re 7-1 in second half openers in their eight seasons of play. They scored four runs in the first inning which were eventually enough to take the game. Jose Offerman went 2-for-3 from the lead off spot and scored two runs while all-star Carl Everett continued his hot hitting going 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Damian Rolls also had two hits and an RBI.
Middle game: (7/14/07)-Ducks, 7, Road Warriors 3
For the second straight game the Ducks put up a crooked number in the first time inning, scoring three runs. Byrant Nelson had a two-run bloop-double and P.J. Rose added a sacrifice fly. Lance Davis (3-0) threw seven innings of three-hit ball for the win. Three Ducks had two hits and catcher Jamie Pogue also had two RBIs. However, Edgardo Alfonzo is still struggling mightily and was 0-for-3 with an RBI.
Final game: (7/15/07)-Ducks 7, Road Warriors 3
The Ducks once again started out hot scoring a first inning run and James Garcia, the Duck starter, threw seven innings of five-hit one-run ball for the no-decision. This was the third straight game a Ducks’ starter went seven innings and they gave up a combined three earned runs in 21 innings. Considering the Ducks were sporting the highest ERA in the Atlantic League during the first half of the season, this is a big change in the right direction. Jose Offerman had another multi-hit game with three hits and two RBIs.
Series Notes:
-The Ducks scored eight first innings runs in the three games
-The Ducks are 22-2 against the Road Warriors the last two years
-This was the sixth series sweep for the Ducks this year
-They lead the North Division by one game with a 3-0 record
Week Ahead:
The Ducks will complete a home and home series with the Lancaster Barnstormers. The first three games will be home at Citi Park, and then they’ll travel to Lancaster for another three games.
