He's a two-time former GSM intern, who's now working for the Double-A Trenton Thunder as a radio broadcaster, or another former GSM intern, Linda Berardelli, who rose from Gotham intern to become our Minor League Correspondent. "Thanks to Gotham Baseball, I was able to hone the skills I learned in college, “ said Berardelli, who also works for the Brooklyn View newspaper. “I was able to compile an extensive portfolio of print and online articles and gain experience that gives me an edge as I start my career in Journalism."
Last year was no exception, as the trio of Peter Sweeney (SI Yankees), Scott Drattell (Cyclones) and Martin Dolitsky (LI Ducks) all got the opportunity to actually cover a baseball beat, and each excelled in their internship positions here at Gotham.
Don't take our word for it, ask them:
Gotham Baseball was an experience unlike any other. For the first time in my life, I was able to go behind the scenes at a professional sporting event. Over the course of the summer, I spent time interviewing many different minor league players and coaches. By piecing together different quotes and information, I was able to write good articles, which were then published on the Gotham Baseball Website. Seeing my hard work published on such a popular website was the best part of it all.- Peter Sweeney, Cortland State.
It was a great time and I learned a lot about not only the media side of baseball but the business side as well. Mark and his crew taught me a lot and welcomed me with open arms.-Marty Dolitsky, Cortland State.
“My experience as an intern at Gotham was extremely useful. After sitting in classrooms for more than eight months, I suddenly found myself in one of the minor league’s most treasured stadiums, interviewing ballplayers who might one day find their way to the big leagues. It was invaluable to learn how to get comfortable interviewing professional athletes, and learn what questions to ask, and how to ask them to get the most appropriate quotes for whatever I was working on. I was also able to hone my AP-writing skills at Gotham, as before the Cyclones’ season began I spent time writing series previews for the New York Yankees. It was also great working for a company that not only allowed interns to submit whatever content they wanted for its website or magazine, but also encouraged it. Ultimately, my experience at Gotham gave me valuable experience in the world of journalism and also reaffirmed and strengthened my desire to become a sports journalist.” - Scott Dratell, Wahington University (St. Louis).
Qualified applicants will get the chance to hone their writing style (including broadcast, print and online), learn how to conduct interviews, as well as getting Web design experience, photo gallery design and magazine layout tutorials.
If you love sports and are looking for a chance to start your media career off the right way, no other internship will teach you more, give you more experience or most importantly, be more fun.
