It was a damp and chilly day at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark at
St. George on Sunday as many Baby Bomber fans braved the cool air and
light rain to help usher in another new season of Staten Island Yankees
baseball. The first 100 Season Ticket holders who waited in line were
the first fans allowed to enter the ballpark and were given the
opportunity to meet former a couple former New York Yankees.
Staten Island Yankee fans entered the ballpark and were treated to special attractions throughout the day. When the weather cleared up the Yankees unveiled their new Staten Island Physician Practice Fun Zone down the left field line. The new Fun Zone includes special activities for families including a Scooter Skeeball and face painting.
Those fans who had the opportunity to meet the special guests of the day lined up outside the Staten Island Yankees Team Shop behind home plate where one-by-one they meet with Tino Martinez, Darryl Strawberry and Pat McMahon. All three signed autographs and talked with fans throughout the day. Season Ticket holders had the chance to sample the food at the new Pinstripe Pavilion on the left field concourse. The freshly grilled food and the new condiment table was a hit with fans new and old. Many ticket holders agreed that it was an improvement from last year. Throughout the day Baby Bomber fans had the chance to enter raffles for several great prizes including Staten Island Yankee merchandise featuring the new logos, luxury suites, and more. In addition fans had the chance to participate in a silent auction for game used jerseys from past seasons. Tours of the ballpark were also available for fans who wanted to see the inner workings of Staten Island’s home team.
The event was a success for the Baby Bombers as Opening Night is sold out for the second consecutive year. In addition fans that were interested in purchasing a ticket plan for this upcoming season were able to view the limited number of seats available and check out the view from their seats. |
