Gotham Baseball Magazine has learned that today, Saturday, Aug. 16,
2008, has been proclaimed “Babe Ruth Day” by New York City Mayor Mike
Bloomberg.
With the ink still drying on the official proclamation, Tim Reid from
the Committee to Commemorate Babe Ruth delivered the document to our
live broadcast of “Live From Mickey Mantle's”, and appeared on the
opening of the show to read it.
The news, given exclusively to Gotham Baseball Magazine, was perfect prelude to our first guest, Linda Ruth Tosetti, the granddaughter of the legendary Babe Ruth. She provided Gotham with the breaking info first.
That would be have been eventful enough for any show, but live radio is chock full of surprises. Attending an event at Mickey Mantle's on Friday night was Rafael Garcia of Rafael Architects, who is working with HOK Sport on the design of the new Yankee Stadium.
You can click here to listen to the reading of the Proclamation, the interview with Linda Ruth Tosetti, and the interview with Rafael Garcia..
Also in attendance at Mantle's was Gotham Baseball Magazine photographer Bill Menzel, who just happened to have shot dozens of exclusive photos of the construction of the new Yankee Stadium. Here's a sample of those shots.
